Antenatal Care

Partnering with you to support and empower your unique pregnancy and birth journey, offering individualised, holistic care in the comfort of your home.

Antenatal care at Birth Tribe Midwifery is about more than check-ups — it’s about building trust, confidence, and connection as we prepare for your birth together. These thoughtfully designed appointments blend evidence-based monitoring, personalised education, and emotional support, helping you feel fully informed and nurtured throughout your pregnancy.

  • Tailored appointments provide the time and space to connect, explore your preferences, and prepare emotionally and physically for birth.

  • Comprehensive monitoring of your and your baby’s well-being supports early, informed decision-making and a clearer understanding of how your pregnancy is progressing.

  • Appointments are unhurried and progressively more frequent as your pregnancy advances, allowing time for meaningful check-ups, education, and birth preparation.

  • Referrals for ultrasounds and pathology are arranged as needed to support a smooth and continuous care experience.

  • Bespoke birth preparation and education include tailored sessions on birth physiology, partner support, comfort techniques, mindset, and birth planning — all aligned with your values and unique vision for birth.

Labour & Birth Care

At Birth Tribe Midwifery, labour and birth care are guided by the same principles that shape your antenatal care — continuity, professional safety standards, and deeply woman-centred support. I provide personalised, professional care tailored to your preferences, whether you are planning a supported homebirth or welcoming your baby in hospital with consistent, familiar care from your own private midwife.

Your care is grounded in evidence-based practice, with the flexibility to respond to your unique needs and the natural rhythm of labour. Throughout your birth experience, I monitor your wellbeing and your baby’s, offer comfort measures and coping strategies, and provide clear, compassionate guidance to support informed decision-making at every stage.

My aim is to foster a supportive, empowering environment where you feel confident, respected, and well-supported — creating space for a birth experience that reflects your choices, your values, and your vision for welcoming your baby.

Homebirth

  • Homebirth is recommended and safe when both you and your baby are well, and your pregnancy is unfolding normally.

  • Throughout pregnancy, we will spend time exploring your birth preferences in depth, crafting a plan that truly reflects your values, desires, and vision for birth.

  • From 37 weeks, Melissa will be on-call 24/7, ready to support your labour when you need her.

  • As your private midwife, Melissa will bring a sense of calm and continuity: you’ll know her, and you’ll feel seen, heard, and supported. She offers clear, evidence-based guidance to help you make informed choices at every moment.

  • Melissa will arrive with emergency equipment and medications, offering increased peace of mind and safety should rare, unexpected situations arise.

  • With regular, shared discussions, we’ll thoughtfully consider your care and make decisions together to keep you and your baby safe and supported. If circumstances change, we’ll follow a well-prepared plan for hospital transfer, ensuring a calm and seamless experience.

  • A second midwife (whom you will meet during pregnancy) is also on-call to attend your birth, ensuring uninterrupted, seamless support as labour unfolds.

  • After your baby’s arrival, Melissa will remain with you for several hours, monitoring your baby’s transition, supporting the establishment of feeding, and guiding you through those first tender moments.

  • Together, we’ll also prepare your birth environment—offering guidance on comfort, lighting, movement, and safety —so that you feel at ease and in control from the moment labour begins.

Hospital Birth

  • Choosing a hospital birth with private midwifery care means you’ll have Melissa as your personal midwife — providing continuity, reassurance, and professional care every step of the way.

  • Melissa is credentialed with visiting rights at Sunshine Coast University Hospital, allowing her to provide continuous, seamless, one-on-one care during your birth as your private midwife. She can support you in the birth suite and offer personalised postnatal visits throughout your hospital stay.

  • When choosing private midwifery care for a hospital birth, the hospital charges a daily bed fee for your stay. This all-inclusive per-day fee covers accommodation and all hospital care provided during that 24-hour period. The cost remains consistent, even if your birth becomes more complex or your care needs change — meaning there are no unexpected add-on fees.

  • During your pregnancy, we will collaboratively explore your birth preferences, ensuring your wishes are clearly understood and respected by everyone involved in your care.

  • You’ll also have the option to take a private tour of the hospital’s birth suites before labour. This includes guidance on parking, where to go on arrival, and what to expect when you first arrive — helping you feel calm, confident, and prepared, with no last-minute stress on the day.

  • Melissa will offer open, evidence-based guidance, supporting you to make informed choices that align with your needs and values throughout your care.

  • Together, we’ll prepare not only for your birth experience, but also for the early days of parenting, with education and resources tailored to your family’s needs.

  • If you wish, Melissa can provide early labour support at home before you transition to hospital care, creating a smooth and continuous experience from home to hospital.

Postnatal Care

A seamless continuation of the woman-centred, holistic care you’ve received throughout pregnancy and birth, now focused on nurturing you and your baby during the early weeks at home.

  • Personalised, in-home visits designed to support your physical recovery, your baby’s transition to life outside the womb, and your family’s emotional wellbeing.

  • Gentle, attentive monitoring of you and your baby, providing reassurance and peace of mind as you settle into this new chapter.

  • Practised breastfeeding guidance to help you feel confident and supported, fostering comfortable, positive feeding experiences.

  • Compassionate care for both the emotional and practical adjustments of becoming a family, offering space to debrief, ask questions, and feel heard.

  • Tailored visit schedule — beginning with daily visits in the early days and gradually adapting to meet your evolving needs.

  • 24/7 access to your midwife, giving you the confidence that trusted support is always just a phone call away.

  • Ongoing phone support between visits to provide additional guidance and connection.

  • Dedicated postnatal care through to six weeks postpartum, ensuring exceptional support for both you and your baby during this tender and transformative time.
